(Washington, DC) — Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan is confident the tax bill will make it to President Trump’s desk.
He called it historic legislation and the first significant rewrite of the complex U.S. tax code in three decades. The House recently passed a sweeping tax bill and the Senate could approve similar legislation by week’s end.
Differences in the two bills would then have to be worked out in a House-Senate conference committee. Meanwhile,, Senator John McCain says he will support the Senate tax bill.
In a statement, the Arizona Republican called the legislation “far from perfect,” but said he thought it would “enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families.”
