(New York, NY) — GQ magazine says Colin Kaepernick is its ‘Citizen of the Year.’
The editors of GQ say Kaepernick is on the cover because he’s been locked out of the game he loves for taking a knee during the national anthem.
For the article, GQ interviewed many of Kaepernick’s defenders. Rapper J. Cole said Kaepernick became conscious about what’s happening in the world and standing for the national anthem felt uncomfortable.
GQ states in their article that “He’s been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL—all because he took a knee to protest police brutality. But Colin Kaepernick’s determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson—athletes who risked everything to make a difference.”
