(Brooklyn, NY) — Opening statements are underway in Brooklyn in the corruption trial of three former members of FIFA, international soccer’s governing body. Three former South American soccer officials have pleaded not guilty to racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering. So far more than 40 officials and sport executives have been charged in a 200-million-dollar scheme that prosecutors say took place over 25-years. FIFA’s World Cup is one of the most watched sporting events and generates billions-of-dollars.
