(Las Vegas, NV) — Sexual assault accusations are now being brought against a member of the Backstreet Boys.
A former member of the 2000’s girl group Dream is accusing Nick Carter of sexual assault. Melissa Schuman wrote on her blog that the incident happened 15 years ago. Carter issued a statement denying the allegation.
The Backstreet Boys are currently in the middle of a residency at the Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas that is currently scheduled through the middle of February.
A report from The Guardian stated that “Schuman’s allegations come in the wake of another accusation against the singer. Last month, an unnamed woman accused Carter and a friend of sexually assaulting her in 2006. Carter’s representative said the woman “fabricated the claims against Nick for one simple reason – she was hoping to extort money from him”.
Schuman says that the “victim shaming” she saw in the comments of an article about those accusations prompted her to share her story.”
