(Colorado Springs, CO) — An African-American Air Force Academy cadet at the academy’s prep school is admitting to making threatening racist messages in September.
The unidentified student was one of five African-American cadet candidates who were thought to be targets of racist notes written on dry-erase boards outside their rooms.
After the incident, the superintendent of the Air Force Academy addressed cadets in a speech that got national attention and denounced the slurs.
But officials in Colorado found out that the student was trying to use the messages as a means to get out of trouble for other misconduct at the prep school. The student reportedly confirmed his involvement after being confronted by investigators.
