(San Antonio, TX) — Texas House Speaker Joe Straus is leaving the government.
He wrote on Facebook Wednesday that he does not plan to run for re-election next year after a dozen years in the Texas Capitol.
The San Antonio Republican says he wants to help politically in other ways, in hopes of being a voice for Texans who want challenges handled in a more constructive and unifying approach.
Straus was elected speaker in 2009.
