Taiwanese President Visits Hawaii Over Chinese Objections

(Honolulu, HI)  —  Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen is in Hawaii for a visit to a Pearl Harbor memorial, over objections from China. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and often complains when Taiwanese presidents stop in the U.S. Tsai landed Saturday and will go on to visit a number of island allies in the Pacific. The State Department describes Tsai’s visit to Hawaii as “private and unofficial.”
