Protesters Demand For Planned Removal Of Alamo Plaza Monument

(San Antonio, TX)  —  Opponents are objecting to a plan to remove a nearly 60-foot granite monument from Alamo Plaza.  On Saturday, a large crowd protested the decision to move the Cenotaph from the plaza, possibly to a small park by Market Street, near a place where the bodies of the Alamo’s defenders were supposedly burned.  City Council earlier this year approved of an Alamo master plan developed by the city, the Texas General Land Office and the nonprofit Alamo Endowment.  The plan calls for a major makeover of the plaza and the relocation of the Cenotaph.
