(Mather, CA) — Progress is being made against the wildfires raging in Northern California, but fire officials warn the situation is still very dangerous. CalFire Chief Ken Pimlott announced today that there are still 17 large fires burning in Northern California, and the death toll remains at 31.
Pimlott remarked that the number of firefighters on the scene has increased to approximately nine-thousand. He also pointed out that investigations are underway into how each fire started.
Pimlott warned that red flag fire warnings have been posted from tonight through the weekend.
He said that not only goes for Northern California, but also for areas of Southern California as well. Pimlott stressed that Californians should have a plan for where they’re going to go if they’re told to evacuate their homes. He said people concerned about approaching wildfires should feel free to evacuate before receiving orders to do so.
California Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci said power has been restored to thousands of customers in Northern California. He added that all but eight cell towers that were knocked out have been restored.
