Mississippi School Votes To Change Name From Confederacy President To Obama

(Jackson, MS)  —  An elementary school in Mississippi is changing its name to honor former President Obama.

Davis Magnet International in Jackson took its name from the president of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis. It’s now going to replace Davis’ name with that of Barack Obama.  Students and staff voted on the new name.

The predominately African American school believes that the name is much more suited than the previous title as they believe that the views held by Mr. Davis would not reflect the new values of the institution.
