College Radio Day 2017 is officially in the books and was a really great experience for everyone here at KTXT. College Radio means something different to everyone involved with this medium, but the central focus for all of us is that it provides a voice for a fluid musical landscape that doesn’t always fit onto the mainstream dial.
The programming, personalities, and music that are associated with it are what make it so unique and special. Everyone involved, including the listeners share a passion for music and the community it fosters on a local level. We are all connected through music which operates as its own diverse language, helping to cultivate a spirit of togetherness. Without College Radio, there would be a gap in the music, sports and news industry that would be very hard to fill.
College Radio is a way for students to begin their careers, gain experience, have fun and get involved in something that isn’t available elsewhere. These airwaves are unobstructed by commercialism to be free to focus on what matters most, music.
Although College Radio Day 2017 is over, the work continues on well past this special day. Keeping people interested and engaged is a challenge for any outlet striving to stay relevant in today’s media landscape. We all must remember that College Radio is not just an amazing day to celebrate, but a reminder of why it is important to continue doing what we do.
From the KTXT Studios in Lubbock, TX we appreciate you tuning in and keeping it locked to the left on The Raider, 88.1 FM.
