(Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, CA) — Groundbreaking is set for Friday for a new memorial at California’s Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.
The memorial honors members of the “Fighting 5th” who died in Vietnam. The “Los Angeles Times” reports a Vermont quarry has been cutting and forming 50 tons of black granite into six large slabs.
Along with a spire rising in the center of the monument, the names of 27-hundred Marines and sailors killed in action will be displayed.
