(San Juan) — The death toll in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria is rising. Officials in the U.S. territory say at least 45 people have died since the hurricane struck on September 20th.
The two latest deaths were caused by a bacterial disease that spreads when animal urine gets into drinking water.
The death toll could still climb since dozens of people are missing and much of the island is struggling to get back on its feet.
Ninety-percent of the island is still without power and almost half of the people still don’t have phone service.
