(Los Angeles, CA) — Actress Alyssa Milano is asking women to respond to her on Twitter, with the hashtag “Me Too,” if they have ever been sexually harassed or assaulted.
Milano made the request in response to the mounting harassment allegations against Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. In another tweet, Milano said while she was “sickened” by the Weinstein scandal, she was happy it had opened up a discussion around harassment and female degradation.
She says she got the idea for the hashtag from a friend, who thought the tweets might “give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” As of Sunday night, hashtag-me-too was the number one trending hashtag on Twitter.
Milano received responses from fellow celebrities, including Debra Messing and Anna Paquin.
