(Kabul) — The president of Afghanistan says he believes most foreign troops will be able to leave his country within four years. President Ashraf Ghani told the BBC that by that time, Afghan security forces should be able to claim a “legitimate monopoly of power.” In the same interview, he praised President Trump’s decision to base U.S. troop levels on “conditions on the ground,” rather than “arbitrary timetables.” At a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, senior U.S. military officials were less sure of President Ghani’s timeline.
