Federal Court Approves Part Of TX Sanctuary Cities Ban Law

(New Orleans, LA)  —  A federal court is approving part of Texas’ new law banning sanctuary cities.  A panel of judges from U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today a lower court erred when it ruled a section of the law unconstitutional last month.  It has to do with a provision telling local authorities they could not order employees to ignore federal immigration officer requests.  The panel did ask Texas to clarify what the phrase “materially limit” means when it involves helping immigration authorities.  Other parts of the law were left blocked until a November hearing.
