Max Scherzer became the third-fastest to reach 2,000 career strikeouts and finished with 10 Ks in 7 1/3 innings, but the Rangers scored four times in the eighth to beat the Nationals 5-1 and complete a three-game sweep of the NL East leaders. Austin Bibens-Dirkx, a 32-year-old rookie making his second major league start, outdueled the 2016 NL Cy Young Award winner by allowing one run and three hits over seven innings.
