(Washington, DC) — The White House fully supports congressional hearings on Russia’s alleged attempts to influence the U.S. presidential election.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest noted that U.S. intelligence officials have accused Russia of “malicious cyber-activity” before the election.
President Obama has ordered a broader review by the intel community and wants a final report before he leaves office on January 20th.
Over the weekend, President-elect Donald Trump said it is “ridiculous” to suggest that Russia intervened to help him win.
Trump accused Democrats of promoting the Russia story as a way to explain their loss.
GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have said the Senate and House intelligence committees will be holding hearings on the Russia issue.
Ryan said any foreign intervention in U.S. elections is “entirely unacceptable.”
McConnell stressed that the “Russians are not our friends” and “do not wish us well.”
