(Cannon Ball, ND)  —  A group of more than two-thousand military veterans plan to protect protesters of the Dakota Access Pipeline project by forming a human shield around their encampment.

Protest organizers made the announcement just days ahead of a federal government deadline for activists to leave the camp.

A Facebook post said veterans Stand for Standing Rock will go to North Dakota this weekend and form a human wall in front of police.

Activists have been camping at the site for months in protest of the proposed pipeline they claim will endanger water supplies and sacred Native-American lands.

The Army Corps of Engineers has ordered the evacuation of the camp by December 5th, citing safety concerns.
