(TEXAS) — Texas is giving women seeking abortions a booklet that says the procedure might cause breast cancer.
Texas law requires the pamphlet to be given to women at least 24 hours before a scheduled abortion.
It includes information about a developing fetus and potential risks of abortion, along with complications of giving birth.
The section about abortion being a cancer-causing risk is drawing fire from the American Cancer Society and other organizations.
The Cancer Society said in a statement that scientific evidence “does not support the notion that abortion of any kind raises the risk of breast cancer or any other type of cancer.”
