(Zapata, TX) — Texas Rangers and Zapata County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the murder of a south Texas man who was shot and killed Tuesday night while fishing on Falcon Lake near the Texas-Mexico border.
A second Starr County man was treated for hypothermia after jumping into the lake to avoid the gunfire.
Authorities will look over video from a nearby U.S. Border Patrol aerostat for any clues as to the identity of the killers, who may have been drug cartel members operating from the Mexican side of the reservoir.
Last week, Mexican authorities seized over six-thousand pounds of pot being loaded onto a boat on Lake Falcon.
