(Mount Vernon, WA) — A Washington state police officer shot in the head during a standoff with a gunman last night remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Harborview Medical Center has released a statement saying the officer underwent surgery at about 10:30 p.m. and is in intensive care in critical condition.
The 61-year-old officer is a 30-year veteran of the Mount Vernon police force.
Police took the gunman into custody early this morning after a standoff that lasted for hours.
They say the man was barricaded inside a home and continually fired at officers.
Police originally thought the suspect was holding hostages but are now calling two other people who were inside the house persons of interest.
