NBC News reports two senior officials say new intelligence shows Putin directed how material hacked from Democrats was made public.
Putin’s aim reportedly began as a personal vendetta against Hillary Clinton, but became a larger effort to show corruption in the American political system.
The officials said the information comes from diplomatic sources and spies for U.S. allies.
