(New York, NY) — New York City’s Museum of Modern Art is showing off the original set of emojis.
Commonplace in smartphone and online communication today, the first emojis were created for pagers by a Japanese company back in 1999.
In internet time, that was practically the stone age.
Today there are more than two-thousand emojis but back then there were fewer than 200.
The museum put them on display Monday as part of a new exhibit.
