(Jacksonville, FL) — Police say a man holding eleven people hostage at a Florida bank kept putting a gun to his captives’ heads while threatening to kill them.
Jacksonville police responded to a robbery in progress Community First Credit Union just after 9 a.m. local time.
Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said negotiators were able to talk with the suspect.
Williams said he made demands of money and to have family members brought to the scene.
Williams said he kept escalating the situation by threatening the hostages.
Two people hiding inside the bank that the suspect didn’t know about made a break for it, distracting the suspect.
That’s when the SWAT team breached the building, recused the hostages and arrested the suspect.
No one was injured.
