(Cedar Rapids, IA) — A Republican senator and former Iowa National Guard member says President Obama is premature in declaring victory over ISIS.
The President gave a speech at an Air Force base in Florida Tuesday in which he said the U.S. is “breaking the back” of ISIS, and called the terror organization “a shadow of its former self.”
Senator Joni Ernst is calling that comment “extremely premature.”
Ernst said Thursday in a letter to the President that ISIS is taking hold in Latin America and continuing to develop in southeastern Asia and in Africa.
The Senator added that she hopes the incoming Trump administration will take the ISIS threat seriously because, she says, “we can’t allow ISIS to continue to spread and inspire other terrorists.”
