(Gatlinburg, TN) — Authorities are now confirming 13 people have died in connection with the wildfires in the eastern Tennessee mountains.
Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters said one of the deaths was from a heart attack.
Speaking at a news conference today, Waters said more than one-thousand structures have been damaged by the fire.
Waters said people who have reported missing loved ones and have found them should call the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation hotline.
Waters said officials are working hard to get the city’s downtown reopened by Wednesday.
