(Charleston, SC) — A federal judge says the self-avowed white supremacist accused of murdering nine people at a historically black South Carolina church is competent to stand trial.
Dylann Roof was found mentally fit after a judge halted jury selection earlier this month to explore the issue of competency.
After settling that, the jury selection process resumed Monday.
Roof is standing trial for the deadly shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston in June 2015.
Nine people were killed, including the church’s pastor.
The 22-year-old Roof has been federally indicted on 33 counts related to the nine murders.
