(Huntsville, TX) — After a six-month hiatus, the Texas death penalty is back. Barney Fuller Jr. was put to death by lethal injection last night in Huntsville for the shooting deaths of his neighbors in rural Houston County thirteen years ago. It’s the only time the east Texas county has sent someone to death row, since capital punishment resumed in 1976. It also breaks the longest gap in Texas executions since 2008, when the nation’s high court was considering the constitutionality of lethal injections.
