(New York, NY) — The “New York Times” says it’s not apologizing for or retracting a story about two women accusing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of touching them inappropriately.
Trump’s lawyers sent the demand to the newspaper this morning and accused it of libel.
Times’ legal counsel David McCraw replied that the story was newsworthy and that reporters worked to verify the women’s stories.
He went on to say that if Trump thinks people who criticize him should stay quiet or be punished, the paper welcomes the opportunity to, quote, “have a court set him straight.”
The Times was taken to task by Trump last May when the main source of similar story they printed retracted her statements and called the story “dishonest.”
