(Austin, TX) — New data from the Secretary of State’s office indicates nearly 15-million Texans are registered to vote with only one week left for the remaining four-million eligible Texans to register.
The “Austin American-Statesman” reports the new registrants tend to be younger and are slightly more likely to be women.
A former research director for the Republican Party says he’s surprised that more Hispanics have not registered given the anti-Latino rhetoric in the presidential campaign.
Just under a quarter of the new registrants have Hispanic surnames, which more or less jibes with the existing registered population.
