(Austin, TX) — Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is expressing his concern over the state’s arbitrary benchmark rate for special-education enrollments in Texas.
A spokesman for Patrick tells the “Houston Chronicle” that his office is working with the commissioner of education to ensure that children with disabilities “are identified and served properly.”
The newspaper recently discovered that special-education enrollments are limited to eight-point-five-percent of the student body and that thousands of students with disabilities are not getting the services they need.
Texas has the lowest percentage of students in the nation getting therapy, counseling and tutoring.
