(Miami, FL) — The Major League Baseball community is mourning the loss of one of its promising young stars. Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed early Sunday in a boating accident. The 24-year-old Cuban native won the Rookie of the Year award in 2013 and was a two-time All-Star, including this season.
Fernandez was scheduled to take the mound for the Marlins on Monday, in what was likely going to be his final start of the season. The Marlins game against the Braves on Sunday was canceled.
