(Corpus Christi, TX) — Activists with the blessing of the U.S. Justice Department are suing the state of Texas for allegedly misleading voters in a court-ordered education program.
A lawsuit filed yesterday in Corpus Christi federal court alleges the state is trying to convince voters without IDs that they will still have a difficult time casting their ballots on November 8th, despite court-ordered modifications to the Texas Voter ID Law.
Earlier this summer, a federal appeals court ruled that the Texas law discriminated against minorities who lacked the IDs and who could not easily obtain one.
The court ordered Texas to spend over two-million dollars to educate voters without IDs about the modifications that would allow them to vote, but now the Justice Department agrees with activists who say Texas is in violation of that mandate.
