(DeSoto, TX) — DeSoto ISD is backing a decision by a volleyball team to kneel during the National Anthem.
Superintendent David Harris says the high school players were doing a peaceful, non-confrontational action last night to explain “their frustrations and fears” on issues outside of the district.
School Board President Carl Sherman says the action may make people uncomfortable, but is happy the players were exercising First Amendment rights. Players told NBC 5 they were kneeling to protest against police violence.
