SAINT ETIENNE DU ROUVRAY – A priest and two hostage-takers are dead after an attack at a church in France this morning.
Police snipers killed the blade-wielding men after they took five people hostage, including the priest, two nuns and two worshipers at the church in Normandy, in northern France. Police report that the priest, 84-year-old Father Jacques Hamel, had his throat cut. The men reportedly yelled “Daesh” as they attacked the church. That’s the Arabic acronym for the terror group ISIS.
The Vatican has condemned the attack, calling it “barbaric.” Spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said it was particularly shocking because it happened in a church. French President Francois Hollande and the country’s interior minister have arrived in the town where the killing is being investigated as a terror attack.
