(Washington, DC) — The federal government is ruling former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro violated the Hatch Act for comments made during an interview.
The U.S. Office of Special Counsel said today Castro impermissibly “mixed his personal political views with official agency business” in April when he praised Hillary Clinton as the most “experienced, thoughtful, and prepared candidate for president.”
Castro is currently serving as HUD Secretary and could be kept from federal employment for five years, suspended, reprimanded or removed from office. Castro says he shouldn’t be punished because he said he was “taking off my HUD hat” before praising Clinton. It’s up to President Obama to decide what “appropriate action” is.
