Philadelphia’s police commissioner says a 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection with this morning’s lockdown at Community College of Philadelphia.

Students were ordered to shelter in place following a report of a man with a gun on campus.  The suspect reportedly was seen inside the Bonnell Building near the city’s Spring Garden section.  A witness told police that the suspect pulled a weapon on him inside the building shortly past 10 a.m.

The commissioner says the suspect did not resist arrest when he was taken into custody inside a classroom at the School for Business and Industry. The suspect did not have any weapon in his possession and police continue to search the campus for the reported gun.

The incident follows a shooting last Monday in Oregon at Umpqua Community College when a gunman killed nine and injured another nine before killing himself.
