The Lubbock Police Department has plans to equip all patrol officers with body cameras and replace in-car cameras in a move that would cost taxpayers $2 million.
The AJ reports that the City Council will consider during its meeting Thursday approving a contract to purchase body cameras for all patrol officers, as well as to replace their in-car video system, which the police department says is obsolete and malfunctioning, according to documents provided by the city as part of the council’s backup agenda. This would be the only vote needed to approve the contract.
The contract is for 285 body-worn camera kits at $860 apiece, plus needed equipment like charging devices, software installation and warranties. That would cost about $318,000.
