The Texas House is preliminarily signing off on new restrictions for minors wanting to get abortions without parental consent. House members voted 98-47 in favor of House Bill 3994 which makes it harder for a minor to get a judge to OK the abortion without parents’ knowledge.
Victoria Republican Geanie Morrison says the bill will protect minors and parental rights. But San Antonio Democrat Roland Gutierrez says the bill basically tells judges they aren’t trustworthy. Austin Democrat Eddie Rodriguez says the bill is just a ban on abortion for people who don’t have state ID’s.
The House will vote again on the measure before sending it to the Senate.
