President Expected To Veto Keystone Bill

Obama 2013 State of the UnionWhite House spokesman Josh Earnest says President Obama is expected to veto the Keystone XL bill later today or tonight.  The Republican bill seeks to bypass the President’s authority and authorize construction of the controversial pipeline, which would pump oil from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast.

It is unlikely that Keystone supporters can muster the votes necessary to override a presidential veto.  Earnest said the State Department is still reviewing the pipeline proposal and he offered no timetable for a final recommendation.

Republicans have accused the President of dragging his feet on approving or rejecting Keystone.  The State Department is involved because the pipeline would cross an international border.
