It took four games, but Texas Tech has finally achieved its first Big 12 win of the season.
The Red Raiders took on Kansas in Lubbock on Saturday, defeating the Jayhawks 34-21, in front of a sold-out Tech Homecoming crowd. It was the first conference win for Tech since the 2013 season.
Running back DeAndre Washington was big for the Red Raiders, rushing for 164 yards on 23 carries, bringing his season total so far to 632 yards.
Quarterback Davis Webb went 22-of-44 for 288 yards and three touchdowns.
Jayhawks quarterback Michael Cummings completed 20 passes for 235 yards.
Defensive play was a major factor for the Red Raiders. Junior linebacker Pete Robertson had two sacks in the game, brining his season total to eight, the most in the Big 12 conference.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game he was happy with the win, against a now 2-5 Jayhawks team that came in and played hard. He said he was also happy with the lack of penalties. The Red Raiders came into the game averaging 11 per game, but was only flagged four times during the game for 22 yards.
The Red Raiders (3-4) look to win again next weekend, heading into Fort Worth to take on Texas Christian University. The Horned Frogs, ranked 12th in the nation, and 6th in the conference, defeated Oklahoma State 42-9 on Saturday.
