To kick off the both their home schedule and the Texas Tech Invitational, the Tech volleyball team defeated Incarnate Word yesterday 3-0. The Red Raiders are now 7-0 on the season and look to continue that streak as they play a double-header today, the first game against Gardner-Webb at noon, and the second against Texas State tonight at 6 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on KTXT 88.1.
Tech soccer is in currently in California, preparing for their matchup against the California Golden Bears tonight at 5:30 p.m. central. The Red Raiders, who are currently 5-0 and number 7 in national rankings, are looking to beat a number 11 Golden Bears team that is also undefeated. This is the first meeting between the two teams, and with a victory tonight, the Red Raiders will begin the season 6-0, matching the programs best start in school history. Texas Tech returns home to take on Abilene Christian on Sunday at the John Walker Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
Coming off a late night 30-26 victory over the University of Texas – El Paso, Tech football looks to continue on undefeated as they take on the University of Arkansas tomorrow at the Jones AT&T Stadium. This will be the first meeting between Tech and the 1-1 Razorbacks since 1991 in which Tech defeated the Arkansas 38-21. The game will be televised regionally on ABC and tickets are still available. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. central and the athletics department is encouraging all fans to black out the stadium.
And finally, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the Red Raider open beginning today. The women will kick off the event at 5:30 p.m. with a 5,000 meter race, and the men will begin soon after with an 8,000 meter race. Both events will begin and end at the John Walker Soccer complex. Tech, who has had a Big 12 champion in each of the last four seasons, is looking to continue that streak tonight.
