LUBBOCK – The only upside to the Texas Tech versus Arkansas game was Gabe Rivera being inducted into Tech Ring of Honor.
Rivera played at the defensive tackle position for the Red Raiders from 1979 – 1982. He earned the nickname Señor Sack while at Tech after accumulating 321 tackles during his career at the university. He became the fourth person inducted into the Ring of Honor.
After that, it got ugly.
After a solid first half, the Red Raiders lost to the Razorbacks by a score of 49 – 28 Saturday afternoon at the Jones AT&T Stadium.
Arkansas, who came into the game 1-1, steamrolled the Tech defense. Razorback running back Jonathan Williams ran for four touchdowns, accounting for 145 of Arkansas’ 438 yards. Running back Alex Collins added two rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Brandon Allen rushed for one.
Tech sophomore quarterback Davis Webb threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns. After only throwing nine interceptions the entire season last year, Webb threw two Saturday, bringing his total through three games to four.
Tech is looking to rebound against the 2-1 Oklahoma State Cowboys on September 20 at 6:30 at the Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.
