Texas Tech took on Oklahoma State in Stillwater in a nationally televised game on Thursday, and came up short to the number 24 Cowboys by a score of 45-35.
Quarterback Davis Webb was injured a few minutes into the fourth quarter, and was escorted to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury. Webb came back onto the sideline from the locker room a few minutes after the injury, but did not play the rest of the game. He was replaced by true freshman quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Webb finished the night with 374 yards, 4 touchdowns and had two interceptions.
Bradley Marquez was big factor in keeping the Red Raiders in the game with 8 receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Reginald Davis caught two touchdowns for Tech, who now goes to 2-2 on the season.
In the first game under defensive coordinator Mike Smith, Tech gave up 528 yards to Oklahoma State, with 158 of those on the ground. Smith took over the defensive duties from Matt Wallerstedt, who resigned from the Tech staff earlier this week.
Cowboys quarterback Daxx Garman went 17-of-31 for 370 yards and four touchdowns.
Penalties, again, were detrimental to the Red Raiders, as they gave up 158 yards on 16 calls. Tech is now averaging 105 penalty yards a game through four games.
The Red Raiders stay on the road, taking on Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas on October 4, at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
