If reinstated by the NFL, Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent will be handed a suspension from league commissioner Roger Goodell. ESPN Dallas reports Jerry Jones will clear a roster spot for Brent, but both parties are currently awaiting disciplinary action from league offices. Brent served 45 days in rehab and is currently serving 10 years probation after killing teammate Jerry Brown in a drunk driving accident.

Speaking of the Cowboys, America’s teams’ starting wide receiver Dez Bryant says that he will not have contract negotiations going on after week one of this season. According to ESPN Dallas, Bryant is slated to make $1.78 million in the final year of his rookie contract, and believes he deserves more. Bryant says that he does not want to be distracted during the regular season, which the Cowboys begin September 7 versus the San Francisco 49ers.

And finally, it has been all over the news. University of Southern California football team captain Josh Shaw is out indefinitely after jumping from a balcony to save his nephew from drowning on Saturday. Fox Sports reports that, during a family gathering, Shaw’s seven-year-old nephew, who doesn’t know how to swim, began struggling in a swimming pool. Seeing this from the balcony, Shaw jumped over, crawled to the pool, and led his nephew out of the pool. Shaw suffered two high ankle sprains, but says he would do it again, for any child he sees in that situation.
