KTXT FM Sports Update LogoDefending champion Adam Scott and Cameron Tringale were able to break away
from the pack Friday and they share the second-round lead heading into the
weekend at The Barclays. Scott posted a 6-under 65 on Friday to jump into a
tie for first with Tringale, who fired a 3-under 68 at Ridgewood Country Club.
The duo holds a 1- shot lead at 8-under 134 through 36 holes. Jim Furyk
headlines a group of three players tied for third at minus-7. Furyk (69) was
joined there by Kevin Chappell (67) and Brendon Todd (69).

basketballStephen Curry, James Harden and Kyrie Irving were among the roster of 12
players named to represent the USA Basketball team in the upcoming FIBA World
Cup in Spain. DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, DeMar DeRozan, Andre Drummond,
Kenneth Faried, Rudy Gay, Mason Plumlee, Derrick Rose, and Klay Thompson are
the others who are headed to Spain. Gordon Hayward, Kyle Korver, Damian
Lillard and Chandler Parsons were the players who did not survive the final
cuts. The team announcement came after the US beat Puerto Rico, 112-86, Friday
night at Madison Square Garden. The FIBA World Cup, previously known as the
World Championship, will be held Aug. 30-Sept. 14. The Americans open play on
Aug. 30 against Finland, and then take on Turkey on Aug. 31 in a rematch of
the 2010 FIBA World Championship gold medal game won by the US.

KTXT FM Sports Update LogoThe National Football League has reportedly fined Cleveland Browns quarterback
Johnny Manziel $12,000 for giving the Washington Redskins bench the middle
finger during Monday’s preseason game. Manziel gave the Redskins bench the
gesture late in the third quarter, after opposing players were jawing with
him. The Redskins won, 24-23. The rookie from Texas A&M learned on Wednesday
that he will start the season as backup to Brian Hoyer.

Kansas City Chiefs starting right tackle Donald Stephenson has been suspended
without pay for the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the
NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substances. Stephenson has played in
all 32 games for the Chiefs since the team selected him in the third round of
the 2012 NFL Draft. The Oklahoma product has started 14 games for Kansas City.

=== BASEBALL ===

KTXT FM Sports Update LogoThe Boston Red Sox have reportedly agreed to a deal with Cuban outfielder
Rusney Castillo. According to MLB.com, the deal is for $72 million over six
years, although another report indicated the 27-year-old defector could join
the team as early as this season. Castillo established residency in Haiti and
was cleared to sign with a major league last month. During the 2010-11 Serie
Nacional season, Castillo led the league with 29 stolen bases and hit .324
with 18 home runs.
