After going 8-5 in his first season as head coach, Texas Tech has signed Kliff Kingsbury to a contract extension, Associate Athletic Director Blayne Beal announced Friday.
Kingsbury, who gained national attention for molding Johnny Manziel into a Heisman winner in 2012, came to Tech before the 2013-2014 season after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M for one season.
According to texastech.com, Kingsbury originally signed a five-year contract. His new deal will now pay him $3.1 million in 2015.
Each year Kingsbury remains the head coach of the Red Raiders, his pay increases by $200,000 per season.
Included in the deal is a set amount he must pay the university if he leaves for another college football coaching job, or the NFL.
He also has a buyout amount if he is fired without cause.
The Red Raiders kick off the football season Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Jones AT&T Stadium.
