AUSTIN — Texas is planning a law enforcement “surge” on the border with Mexico. Governor Rick Perry and other top leaders told the Department of Public Safety Wednesday they were to use any funds given to the agency to help deal with the influx of illegal immigrants in the region. Perry says Washington, DC is taking too long to secure the border and Texans have to be protected. The move is believed to be similar to one done last year which focused on human smuggling and drug trafficking in the border region. The surge is expected to go on until the end of the year and cost over a million-dollars a week.
