Statement from Mickey Long, Chairman, Texas Tech University System Board of Regents

There were separate interviews conducted with chancellor candidates on Wednesday outside of Lubbock.  The interviews were not posted and conducted as open meetings because all aspects of the Regents’ participation in the interviews, including air and ground transportation as well as the interviews themselves, were structured in such a way that there never was a quorum of the Board together for any deliberations.

Discussions by Regents of the candidates are reserved for executive sessions during the posted Board meetings set for Thursday and Friday.

The interviews were structured and conducted in this manner specifically to protect the confidentiality of the candidates, which is allowed under Section 552.123, Texas Government Code.
